V Valley STP: Creating value with a commitment

With the global concern towards the environment and sustainable development, we are living in the times of a Resource Revolution. This not only entails preserving the traditional natural water sources from the pollution, caused by the discharges of untreated Sewage and Industrial wastewater into the water sources but also reduce, recycle and reuse such wastewater to lessen the pressure from the conventional source of drinking water.
The mission

The 60 MLD Tertiary Wastewater Treatment Plant at Vrishabhavathi Valley, Mysore Road. Bengaluru is a perfect example of reducing, recycle and reuse. In the late 1990s when the city entered into a phase of intense urbanization and industrialization, the city’s authorities started exploring alternative ways to source the rising demand for water for the industries and optimize the conventional freshwater resources for drinking water production.




In 2000, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) chose SUEZ to Design, Build and Operate the 60 MLD Tertiary Wastewater Treatment Plant at Vrishabhavathi Valley. This project was constructed as part of the Improvement of Water Supply & Sewerage System in Bangalore program under INDO-FRENCH Protocol.

Our solution


SUEZ has a diversified portfolio of expertise, processes and proven technologies in the wastewater segment that have helped it become a trusted partner to its customers globally. The V Valley plant is also one such an example. The project has been supported by a team with international expertise and implemented the best of processes and products like DensaDeg® and FLOPAC™ Filters.

The design of the plant is based on the following principles:

  

  • As the plant is getting the effluent from another BWSSB’s 180 MLD Secondary Sewage Treatment Plant, it is assured of a constant flow of 60MLD.
  • For the optimization of the design, cost and O&M, the plant is constructed in 2 modules of 30MLD each.

The overall treatment process is divided into Wastewater Treatment System and Sludge Dewatering System.

The result

Wastewater is a huge resource that needs to be perpetually tapped. At V Valley, SUEZ has once again been able to successfully support BWSSB in their endeavors. This illustrates the Group's ability to provide reliable and locally-tailored solutions to the growing challenges of access to drinking water and sanitation in large municipalities such as Bangalore.

In 2016, BWSSB entrusted SUEZ with a repeat order for the Design & Building of a new wastewater treatment facility with a capacity of 150,000 m3/day at the V Valley complex. Equipped with modified activated sludge process (complete with nitrification and denitrification), the plant will treat effluents to achieve a superior discharge quality into the Vrishabhavathi river, in accordance with the most recent standards(TSS/BOD=10/10) of the Indian authorities, requiring, in particular, a total nitrogen content of less than 10 mg/L.


The work will also include rehabilitation of the existing plant of 150,000 m3/day capacity. The common sludge treatment plant for the two treatment plants will be equipped with SUEZ’s technologies (Sedipac™ and Digelis™) that will help generate green power from the biogas produced in order to make the plant energy self-sufficient.
